Stratford police arrested a 38-year-old man and 15-year-old boy after they were caught allegedly stealing what witnesses described as trees but later turned out to be marijuana plants.

In a press release, police say they were called to a home late Wednesday night in the east end of the city to investigate a report of several suspicious males believed to have been stealing trees from a backyard.

Descriptions of two suspects led officers to find and arrest two Stratford residents. Police said they also recovered the stolen marijuana plants.

Police charged the 15-year-old with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, and breach of probation, and issued him a promise to appear in court on Oct. 24.

The 38-year-old was charged with possession of stolen property and breach of probation, and he will be in court on Oct. 28 to answer to those charges.
