Huron Perth public health officials have confirmed three residents of Cedarcroft Place in Stratford have tested positive for COVID-19, making the retirement home the first in the region to experience an outbreak during this pandemic.
In a press release issued Wednesday morning, the health unit said the residents who tested positive are showing symptoms and have been placed in isolation as public-health officials conduct contact-tracing investigations and provide outbreak-control support.
“We understand the seriousness of COVID-19 and the impacts it can have,” said Dan Vito, executive director of Cedarcroft, in the press release. “We are working closely with the health unit to make sure all precautions are being taken to protect the health of our residents, their families and our valued staff.”
A spokesperson for All Seniors Care Living Centres, the company that owns Cedarcroft, later confirmed that at least one of the three residents who tested positive for the virus is in hospital, but he wouldn’t comment on the severity of the symptoms for any of the three confirmed cases.
