As the province prepared to announce a new stay-at-home order extending into February Tuesday afternoon, the city announced the programs aimed at assisting low-income residents through the pandemic.

In a press release issued just before Ontario Premier Doug Ford took to the podium at Queen’s Park in Toronto, the city encouraged anyone who has missed rent, mortgage or utility payments for their primary residence to contact social services to determine if they are eligible for assistance.

“It is important that we address this issue before the arrears end up costing individuals and families in our community their housing,” Stratford social services director Kim McElroy said in the release.

For more information on eligibility and to find out how to apply for assistance, call Stratford social services at 519-271-3773 ext. 200.
