The Perth County OPP is investigating complaints from across the province about a phone scam where the caller claims to be a representative from the Township of Perth East.

According to police, the scammer is demanding personal information, including social insurance numbers, and threatening legal action if those who answer the call refuse.

The Perth County OPP reminding residents never to send money, give out credit card or provide online account information to anyone you don’t trust. A request to send money to someone using Google Play or iTunes gift cards is an enormous red flag.

Similarly, police caution against giving out personal information over the phone, in an email, or when chatting online.
