The local conservation authority is urging area residents to use caution near waterways this weekend due to heavy rain and rising water levels.

With between 40 and 50 millimetres of rain expected by the end of Friday, followed by another 5 to 10 millimetres Saturday on already saturated watershed ground conditions, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority anticipates runoff into waterways to happen quickly. This will cause water levels in streams, ditches and rivers to rise to near full conditions, the authority said.

Water levels are expected to remain elevated into next week, the authority said. However, it did not expect serious flooding.
