It’s final countdown time to our season opener for the 2019/20 season. The popular Juno award-winning Canadian band Sloan will rock the Capitol Centre stage Friday night. It’s going to be a great way to kick off fall and we can’t wait to get things started.

If you are a country fan, it isn’t too late to pick up a ticket for Aaron Pritchett, who performs tonight, with Kira Isabella and David James also taking the stage. This show is brought to you by Invictus Entertainment.

For all those Sunday Cinema fans, we got things started last week with Yesterday.

This Sunday, we will be screening the movie Late Night starring Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling. We had lots of requests to show this one so I hope to see lots of people out enjoying the film with some of our delicious popcorn.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, we have changed our Sunday Cinema pricing. Advance tickets are $6, with prices increasing to $8 at the door. Next week, we are bringing you The Farewell, which looks like another great film.

Our Free Family Film is also back this Sunday, as well. We will be showing the light-hearted superhero movie Shazam providing some fun entertainment for families. We are proud supporters of the North Bay Food Bank and encourage patrons to bring food bank donations.

If you haven’t been to our gallery for awhile, you should stop by and check out the Postcard Project which is exhibited in our small gallery and was curated by our own Alix Voz. It’s a special exhibition and one you shouldn’t miss.

Our staff and gala committee are busy planning our Hops and Vines fundraiser. This year’s gala will feature Second City as our main entertainment and will also feature several local bands and musicians throughout the evening. This wonderful evening is a great way to enjoy top-notch entertainment combined with free samples of food from local restaurants/caterers and wine and beer from various wineries and breweries. This is the Capitol Centre’s major fundraiser and is a local tradition. It’s a steal of a deal at $90 (special pricing to celebrate our 90th anniversary).

Finally, I want to give a shout out to our new director of programming and events, Dan Misturada, who recently relocated, with his family, to North Bay to join our team. Dan brings lots of great ideas and experience and is already planning our 2020/21 season. We’ve got lots of great entertainment in our future.

Cindy Forth is interim executive director of the Capitol Centre.
